By Stephen Tadaha

The National Anti-Corruption Commission, CONAc, has said that Cameroon remains corrupt, despite measures put in place to curb the practice. Corrupt activities cost Cameroon FCFA 44 billion in 2021, a report revealed.

The information was revealed on Thursday, November 10, 2022, by Dieudonne Massi Gams, President of the Commission, in a ceremony to officially present the 11th report of the fight against Corruption in Cameroon.

According to the report, the country lost FCFA 43 Billion 947 million to corrupt practices in the year 2021, an increase of about FCFA 26 billion 336 million 519 000 as compared to the year 2020 whose losses were estimated at FCFA 17 billion 611 million.

Of the amount mentioned above, about FCFA 24 Billion and 249 million are attributed to the Cameroon Debt Recovery Corporation.

These conclusions were arrived at by CONAC after scrupulously examining 6 705 denunciations linked to corrupt practices in 2021 compared to over 16 000 received in 2020.

The most corrupt sectors in the country are the territorial administration, decentralized territorial collectivities, trade, land, education, finance (customs, taxation, and treasury), forces of law and order, forestry and wildlife, justice, transport, and health.
