Despite crisis: SDF vows to win senatorial elections in the North West

By Nukapuh P.

Members of the Social Democratic Front, SDF political party have vowed that the party must win seats in the upcoming senatorial elections, despite internal problems they are facing.

This was during a discussion on Thursday, March 2, 2023, with both local and regional councilors, during the launching of the Senatorial elections campaign for the SDF in Bamenda. The Councilors will be the electorates on election day.

“When you go to a competition, everybody wants to win. And sometimes you have underdogs, but winning is the only option,” Vanigansen Mochiggle, list leader in the North West region said.

The 7 substantive candidates for SDF in the North West region were all presented to the councilors and amongst them are 4 incumbent senators including Vanigansen Mochiggle, Buh Sule, Ajuoh Ngam Honore, Kinyang George, Amboufei Diana, Bunyui Emmanuel, and Mafogho Inusa.

During the ceremony which also gave room for questions and answers from media persons, they boasted that the North West region has always set a political agenda in the country. Vanigansen noted that the SDF political party will never change its position.

“Before we submitted our list, social media went along and said we are doing underground discussions with the CPDM for positions, because the SDF is dying…,” Vanigansen said.

He denied the allegations and said the Social Democratic Front still stands on its ground and believes that “change can only be achieved through evolution and not revolution”

In their manifesto, members revealed that the party is advocating for the allocation of at least one billion FCFA per council, which will be used for projects, beneficial to the community.

The event is coming at a time when the party is in serious crisis, as 32 of her militants were recently dismissed including some Senators and Parliamentarians.

This year’s Senatorial elections will take place on March 12, across the country. Only the Cameroon People’s Democracy Movement, CPDM, and the Social Democratic Front, SDF political parties are contesting in the North West region for the 7 seats available.
