Defense minister visiting villages hit by Boko Haram
Cameron’s Defense Minister, Joseph Beti Assomo is on a working visit in Northern regions of Cameroon.
These are areas troubled mainly by persistent armed attacks, hostage taking and highway robbery. His visit that began this Thursday June 23 is expected to end on Friday June 24. He is expected to tour the Far North, North and Adamawa regions and to accentuate on the operations geared towards maintaining and re-establishing peace and order. Joseph Beti Assomo also hopes to strengthen security and the protection of the populations and their property.
Over the years, the Defense boss has visited this troubled part of Cameroon with same objectives yet insecurity masterminded mostly by Boko Haram insurgents has multiplied in the Far North region especially with the killing of locals and looting of villages. The inhabitants of the targeted villages say prior to this visit, numerous distress calls have been sent to Yaounde pleading that military troops stationed there be reinforced.
