Decomposing corpse abandoned in a house in Brazzaville-Douala, Police demand money for evacuation
Inhabitants around “escaliér bar” in the Brazzaville neighborhood, Douala 3 sub-division have sent distress calls to local authorities to evacuate the decomposing corpse of a man abandoned in a house for several days now, with pungent smell emanating and intoxicating the entire quarter.
” Today is Wednesday and it is the 4th day the corpse has been lying there, decomposing, making breathing difficult. We risk contamination if it’s not evacuated.” A local explained.
On Tuesday, the deceased’s relatives who learnt of their brother’s demise went to the compound. While there, they, together with the quarter head, landlord, neighbours and population tried getting to sanitation personnel to no avail. They succeeded to contact police in the area and infromed of them of the situation. Instead, they were asked the sum of 300,000 FCFA for evacuation of the decomposing corpse.
“The man’s relatives hadn’t this huge sum of money. They stood for some time and later went away. We thought they were going to seek for another alternative means to get rid of the corpse but they never returned till this Wednesday morning.” Added the inhabitant.
Everyone at “escaliér bar” were still in a disturbed mood on Wednesday morning, doubling efforts for competent authorities to evacuate the corpse and proceed with intense disinfection.
