The Administration of Holy Cross International College, Yaoundé, has denounced what it described as coordinated attacks against the institution since the tragic passing away of a 13-year old student, whose identity is concealed for ethical reasons.
In a communique which CNA has seen, the school said some social media users and pages have spread fake news about an alleged negligence by the school but in reality when the child reported sick on Friday November 14, 2025, he was promptly attended to with involvement of his parent. Later, he was “was referred for further medical attention at a clinic on Saturday 15th November 2025 and left the school with an exeat order signed by the school medical doctor. Worthy of note is the fact that this student
participated in sports on Thursday, attending all his lessons on Friday and only reported to the
infirmary later that same day.” part of the release read.
Furthermore the school noted that throughout his stay in clinic he was stable and the school medical doctor remained in continuous contact with the medical team of the clinic. But, despite the efforts made, unfortunately on the third day, his condition deteriorated and he was transferred to another hospital where he passed on.
Despite these evidences showing that there were comprehensive follow-up until his demise, some social media reports said the contrary.
The College condemned the spread of such misleading information, saying this is only “aimed at tarnishing the image of the institution.”
“We encourage our community to remain calm and guided by respect, compassion,
and verified information. Our focus remains on supporting the family, maintaining unity, and
safeguarding the dignity of our student.” they pleaded.
We reassure all parents and stakeholders that the health, safety, and well-being of our students
remain among our highest priorities. Holy Cross International College continues to uphold strict
medical, administrative, and pastoral procedures to ensure the best care for every child entrusted to us.
CNA was able to get a disclaimer from the parent of the deceased, Sama Clara, who stated categorical that her son’s health was not neglected by the school’s administration.
I want to make it clear by this message that Holy Cross International College administration is not in anyway responsible for my child’s death. There was no negligence on the side of the institution. As a matter of fact, the school administration acted promptly and worked closely with us to ensure our child
received proper medical care. Any other statement contrary to this note is pure defamation and the authors shall face legal actions if their statements are not withdrawn within 48 hours- Sama Clara
The mother who said she will report accounts of those spreading fake stories about the school is not on social media. She promised to bring down all posts that have been spreading the stories.
CNA investigation revealed that the Head of the school, Dr. Julia Buban, is a Pediatrician. A Medical Doctor of the 9th promotion CUSS and who has a WHO scholarship and studied in the UK. A Pediatrician ( Dr for children) who has worked in the Jean Irene and Chantal Biya Hospital of the central Hospital Yaoundé. Then worked in the Teaching Hospital Yaoundé.
“Our students are our priority and the school has an infirmary with a Medical Doctor Dr Achidi Ngu in charge and three nurses two of whom are state registered nurses. All the students are medically well taken care of and referral to clinics and hospitals when need be. All the students are registered with Zenith insurance every year for any accidents on Campus. We ensure all the children are well vaccinated and Centre Pasteur has been on Campus twice brought to give special vaccines , typhoid Meningitis , hepatitis. They even analyzed our boreholes and rated it safe for drinking but we still brought in Aura so we have good water supply for drinking. We have a school canteen full with Supermont for those who still need sterile water. The Aura filtering systems are allover for the students to drink. Our dormitories are grilled with mosquito nettings. You can come evaluate and tell me if there’s any school with such medical care and follow up.” The administration told CNA.
