CRM election: Kamto wins 99.23%, ready for another penalty kick against Paul Biya

The National President of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, CRM, Maurice Kamto was declared winner of the main party’s structure chairmanship after grabbing 99.23% of the total votes.

Thousands of militants gathered at the Yaounde Sports Complex to take part in the 3rd Convention of the party. The two-day event ended on Sunday, December 10, 2023, with the reelection of the national president.

Kamto stood unopposed with a single list that got elected at 99 percent having a total of 1168 votes from 1177 delegates eligible to vote.

A dissident of the SDF party, Hon. Jean Michle Nintcheu who was invited to the Convention appealed to all political opposition leaders to rally behind Maurice Kamto, especially during the upcoming 2025 presidential elections.

Kamto who lost in the 2018 election said he won, by scoring the penalty against Paul Biya, but the electoral system gave his victory to incumbent Paul Biya, “I did win the 2018 presidential election in Cameroon. I repeat here in front of viewers and Cameroonians that I won the October 7th, 2018 presidential election,” Kamto said in December 2019.

The 2025 elections are already making waves, two years to the event. Before the CRM Convention, some traditional rulers from the Lekie division, Centre region, made a symbolic but spiritual burial of the political career of Maurice Kamto, by burying a coffin inside a fire-burning grave.
