Crackdown on non-compliant drivers on course

By Stephen Tadaha
The Regional Delegate of Transport for the West Region, Biya Paul, has announced a major road control operation to identify and penalize drivers who fail to comply with regulations. Starting June 1, 2025, a joint team of transport officials and law enforcement agents will conduct thorough checks on vehicles, focusing on three key areas, notably to ensure that all vehicles display valid CEMAC plates, to verify that all vehicles have up-to-date registration documents and to also verify that all vehicles have valid insurance coverage.
Vehicles found to be non-compliant with these regulations will be impounded and taken to a designated pound. To avoid inconvenience, drivers are advised to ensure their vehicles meet all regulatory requirements before June 1, 2025.
This crackdown comes amid concerns about road safety in Cameroon, especially in the West Region, where deplorable roads have become a dead trap, killing hundreds of Cameroonians each year in fatal accidents.
Despite efforts from the government to pave more roads, the country fell short of its 2024 target, with only 446 kilometers of roads paved or nearing completion, compared to a target of 656.96 kilometers.
Drivers in the West Region are urged to comply with all regulations to avoid penalties and ensure their safety on the roads. By working together, authorities aim to reduce accidents and promote responsible driving practices.
