CPDM Fako supporters abandoned in floods at installation of PDD

By Nchendzengang Tatah

Militants of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) were left to sit in the water-invaded canopies of the ceremonial ground at the Manga Williams Avenue. While officials were comfortably placed on the stands after jumping out of their high-built cars during the installation by Peter Mafani Musonge of Prof. Nalova Lyonga as Head of Permanent Divisional Delegation (PDD) of the Central Committee of the CPDM for Fako.

How it happened

It had rained heavily, according to witnesses, in the morning of June 14, the day of the installation. The Manga Williams Avenue stretch was buried as usual in dirty rainwater, which slowly flowed off. At about midday, when the rain had ceased for a while, accessing the event venue was difficult for many especially those without vehicles. Others put their feet into the water despite the odds. Before this reporter, several persons were carried by the depth of the water, including a handicapped and an aged woman.

The said woman had her hand bag completely sucked having in it her phone. We later learned from her account that she was an artist to perform during the event. The event had no musical performances as indicated by the official programme. The CPDM bigwigs faced the water from the stand. Militants who had with them banners were not asked to leave the general stands pitched in the water-inundated section. The CPDM bigwigs watched them sit in it with buried feet till the end of the event.

Nalova installed

The CPDM South West boss, Mafani Musonge, in his installation address read by Chief Tabe Tando, congratulated Prof. Nalova Lyonga, who had been made a substantive member of the CPDM Central Committee and Fako PDD head by separate decisions signed on March 25 and 26, respectively, by the party’s national president, Paul Biya. He paid homage to the pioneer and former Fako PDD head, the late Hon. Lifaka Emilia.

Musonge said Nalova knew Fako very well and had given enormously for the growth of the party in the area. He observed that the PDD was not a replacement for the sections of the party which oversee its day-to-day running in subdivisions. Prof Nalova was then urged to work towards the consolidation of unity, fight against hate speech and ensure a renovation of the CPDM victory in Fako. This, the newly installed CPDM Fako head pledged to do. A motion of gratitude and support was forwarded at the end of the event to President Paul Biya
