Cinematographic arts introduced for second cycle students
By Stephen TADAHA
The introduction of cinematographic arts into the second cycle of General education in Cameroon, is one of the major innovations done by the ministry of Secondary education this new school year.
This means students interested in film making can now be molded in Secondary schools.
The process goes thus:
The lower sixth student going in for Cinematographic arts is expected to choose the cinematographic arts subject and at least two complementary subjects in the least of to form a combination. Other subjects linked to cinematographic arts are literature in English and ICT/Design computing while subsidiary subjects are sports and NLC.
However for those interested in cinematographic arts can take it up as an additional subject.
This subject is far from absorbing literature as some parents might be thinking. According to experts in the domain, cinematographic arts will be complementary with literature.
“The cinematographic arts subject is not here to absorb literature as many think, it is complementary ” affirms Dr Djiafeua Prosper, Natinal pedagogic inspector, head of National arts, language and cultural services at the ministry of Secondary education
“In literature classes there are already the leaning of images and scenarios, now cinematographic arts comes to transform these aspects” he adds
The innovation will be experienced this year in 5 schools across the country namely: Lycee General Lecerc, Lycee Moderne Classic Maroua, the scientific Government high school of Bertoua, GBHS Ebolowa and GBHS Molyko in Buea.
Only holders of the Ordinary level certificate in the English subsystem of education and BEPC in the French subsystem of education can take part in the innovation this year.
