CHUY workers to go on strike
Workers of the Yaounde University Teaching Hospital, CHUY, have announced that they will embark on a strike action from August 8th 2022 at 7:30 AM.
Five reasons for this action are given in their communique signed this August 3rd 2022 by the President of the National Health Workers’ Trade Union (SYNPEMS).
Balla Balla says health workers have not received been paid their shares as agreed for the past 44 months. They equally talk about the failure to process promotions for the years 2018, 2019 and 2020. Former workers on retirement complain their benefits are not being paid by the National Social Insurance Fund, CNPS. The absence of protective gear and even sanitizers for mortuary workers is mentioned and finally, the workers say the failure to publish hospital earnings as they normally should is proof of shady business at the facility.
These are their grievances which they want settled if government wants them to call off the planned strike action.
Health workers across the nation have been warning the public health ministry for the past week with hopes that their problems will be solved but this has not been the case.
