Chadian Ambassador to Cameroon regains duty post after diplomatic tension

By Stephen TADAHA.

Chadian Ambassador to Cameroon is in Cameroon after a month of diplomatic tensions between the two countries over the management of the Cameroon – Chad Oil and Gas pipeline.

On April 24, 2023, the Chadian Diplomat, Djidda Moussa Outhman was called home by his government following misunderstandings between the two countries over the management of the pipeline the two countries share.

The 1,070 km of infrastructure, of which more than 900 km is in Cameroon, allows Chad to channel all its oil production to the international market.

Tensions began after Chad, in an April 20, 2023 statement, complained that it was unfair that the national hydrocarbons company (SNH) of Cameroon and the British Savannah Energy signed an agreement in which SNH will have 10% of Savannah Midstream’s (subsidiary of Savannah Energy) shares in Cameroon Oil Transportation Company (Cotco).

Chad also accused Cameroon of getting closer to Savannah Energy which Chad considered as her “enemy”, through the abovementioned agreement.

These tensions led to Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh’s urgent visit to Chad on April 26, 2023, with a special sealed envelope from President Paul BIYA, destined for Chadian Transitional President Mahamat Idriss Dèby.

In return, a special envoy, Mr. Gali Ngothe Gatta, Minister of State, and Secretary General at the Presidency of Chad, was sent by the Chadian president to Yaoundé, where these misunderstandings are believed to have been buried.

To confirm her satisfaction after the negotiations, Chad has in a release signed on Wednesday, June 7, by the Spokesperson of the Chadian Government, decided that her Ambassador, HE Djidda Moussa Outhman regains his duty post in Yaoundé.
