CDC re-assures workers arrears will be paid soon
The Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC, following a strike action in the morning hours of November 12 reassured disgruntled workers of the company’s commitment.
In a release signed by the General Manager, Franklin Ngoni Njie, he admitted that the institution was indebted to its workers. Without mentioning for how long the accrued wages were not paid, he said “management understands the demands of the workers and the difficulties they go through.”
Citing an earlier released circular of October 4, the CDC management noted that the state and other stakeholders were aware, and were working towards resolving the issue. According to the CDC GM, the trade union leaders of the workers had taken committment as much as the corporation during a crisis meeting moments into the strike.
Background to CDC response
Hundreds of CDC workers of different sectors appeared with cards and chants on streets, November 12, 2024. In their respective localities, they demanded the payment of their accrued wages.
The protesters including labourers, factory and medical staff were seen on the streets of Tiko, Pendamboko and Bota. Some said they had not been paid for over fifty-five months.
The non-payment of workers wages is a result of an ongoing eight-year socio-political unrest in the region. The authorities of the state owned corporation have continued to reassure workers of subsequent action.
