The Reverend Nfor Tangko of the Cameroon Baptist Theological Seminary (CBTS) has graduated with a PhD in Theology from the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary (NBTS). Reverend Tangko who now becomes Reverend Doctor Tangko, titled his thesis ‘Head Covering in Worship: Reading 1 Corinthians 11:1-16 for Mbum Churches in the Cameroon Baptist Convention’
Speaking to CNA Rev. Dr. Tangko explained that this theological research was necessary because “CBTS exists in the Mbum land and the problem of head covering confronts everyday and every time they attend church service. The specific application to the Fons will help church pastors, students and seminary lecturers to re-visit the view of asking Fons to uncover which has created tension”
This research approach can be used to respond to the recent threat from Ntsuh Nyu. CBTS as a CBC institution and can use this research to propose a CBC position on head covering to guide it’s practice in all churches in the Convention” he added.
The doctoral thesis comes at a time when the CBC is grappling with theological issues and doctrines being taught by new and unregulated charismatic churches and it is hoped it will strengthen not just the CBC but other mainline churches dealing with similar issues. It addresses a pertinent issue in Cameroonian Christianity following the departure of Western missionaries.
