Catholics encouraged to be strong in face of hardship

Catholic Christians in Cameroon have been called upon to be patient and hardworking in order to overcome the economic hardship plaguing the country.

The calls were made by some religious authorities in various congregations this Tuesday August 15, 2023 during masses held to observe the day of the assumption which they believe marks the bodily ascension of Mary, mother of Jesus Christ into heaven.

At the Our Lady of Victory Cathedral in Yaounde, a mass was celebrated by the Archbishop of Yaounde, His Lordship Jean Mbarga during which he called on Christians to take Mary’s life as an example to face the realities in the society.

“Like Mary did, being active in her family and community during her time, we should also accept to commit ourselves to work for the prosperity of our economy,” declared His Lordship Jean Mbarga.

“Through Mary’s life, we are called upon work for a better society, a peaceful and prosperous nation and families united in the Holy Bible spirit,” added His Lordship Jean Mbarga.

At the Saint Ferdinand Parish in the Babadjou subdivision, West region, the faithful were called upon to be courageous, patient and strong like the Virgin Mary who went right up to the foot of her son’s cross despite the persecutions she faced.

The call was made by Father Théophile Tagne, the Parish Priest who said Christians have to be examples despite the challenges they face.

The feast was also an occasion for some Christians to receive their baptism and holy communion sacraments. It was the case at the Our Lady of Rosary parishes of Bamessingue, Bamboutos division and Mbalmayo in the Centre region during masses that were respectively said by Father Sokoudjou Mathieu and His Lordship Joseph Marie Ndi Okalla.
