CAS reinstates Semengue’s LFPC, annuls several decisions taken by FECAFOOT

The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), has published a document reversing several decisions taken by Samuel Eto’o and members of his executive committee at FECAFOOT.

In the document dated August 15, 2023, the Cameroon Professional Football League (LFPC) which had General Pierre Semengue as President, has been reinstated.

Professional football in Cameroon has been managed by the Transitional Council for Professional Football from the time Semengue’s own league was scrapped by former FECAFOOT boss Seidou Mbombo Njoya.

Since then, Cameroon’s football has been played in courts more than on pitches. Despite Eto’o’s arrival with a reconciliatory move towards the General, the situation has not changed.

The verdict which CAS has passed, restores several other Cameroonian football stakeholders to their former positions. Magistrate Gilbert Schilick has been reinstated as the head of the electoral commission of the Cameroon Football Federation.

L’Oeuil du Sahel publisher Guibai Gatama, who took the feeration to CAS after he was suspended by the Eto’o government, has also regained his position with the FECAFOOT executive committee. The federation will have to pay him 5000 Swiss Francs.

The sanction against Panthere Sportive of Nde has equally be lifted, with the team regaining its place in the country’s top tier championship. The Bagante club will receive 3000 Swiss Francs from FECAFOOT.

This comes at a time when CAF is expected to give its own verdict on multiple complaints filed against the Cameroon Football Federation.
