Banso Baptist Hospital: Institution’s vehicles can now transit to, from Bamenda

By Hans Ngala

“BBH vehicles can now ply the roads for medical evacuations and support visits” The announcement was made to Banso Baptist Hospital (BB) staff during their morning devotions on November 3, 2023, by the senior administrator, Mr. Nji Richard Nkeh

It is worth noting that the vehicles have not been on the road for 1 year, 1 month, and 20 days.
Two years ago, separatist fighters gave an injunction to the hospital, asking that it stop writing ‘Cameroon’ in its official name on their vehicle. So instead of ‘Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services’, the hospital had to simply write ‘Baptist Health Services’ as per the fighters’ instructions.
This is a glaring case of healthcare institutions being caught in the middle of the ongoing conflict between security forces and separatists in the Anglophone regions.

Worth noting is that the hospital’s former administrator was arrested by security forces sometime last year along with two nurses for allegedly treating separatist fighters. One of the arrested nurses was a breastfeeding mother at the time whose newborn baby had to be brought to her in prison to be breastfed.
Banso Baptist Hospital remains a lifeline, providing crucial medical services to people in Kumbo and nearby villages and the ability of her cars to transport essential medication, personnel, and equipment is very important. People needing chemotherapy (cancer treatment), HIV medication, and other life-saving treatments can now access the hospital on time too thanks to the dedication of the staff and leadership of the wider CBC Health Services who provide medical attention to all Cameroonians regardless of their religious, political, or tribal backgrounds.
