Cameroonian Stephan Dipita wins 2022 RFI talent of laughter award

Cameroonian Comedian, Stephan Dipita has been crowned winner of the 8th edition of the RFI talent of laughter award 2022.

He was announced the winner on December 12 2022.

Stephan Dipita was among the 10 French-speaking comedians across Africa who were nominated for this award. He succeeds the Gabonese comedian Manitou who was crowned winner last year.

The France media World RFI Talent of Laughter Award was initiated by the comedian Mamame to reveal new talents in French comedy in Africa.

Stephan Dipita, 28, who hails from the littoral region studied theater arts at the university level, and in 2012 he decided to go into comedy. He is said to have set up his first one-man show titled “my virtual friend“ at the age of 23 in 2017.

When he was nominated for the award a few weeks back, Stephan Dipita was very optimistic about winning the prize after trying several times in the previous editions:
“I want to go to the end of this adventure by bringing the cup home, I hope this year will be the right one”.

After the winner was announced yesterday, he took to his Facebook page saying “it is galvanizing to write my name alongside the talents who make Africa shine in the world through their humor and talents”.

Dipita becomes the second Cameroonian comedian to win this award after Basseck Fils Misericorde won in 2015.

He will receive a cash price of more than 4,000 Euros, over F CFA 2.5 million in February 2023 at the Abidjan festival.
