Cameroonian, Dulcy Fankam shortlisted for American women’s basketball league, NBA

Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu, 23, a Cameroonian female basketball player has been drafted in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), the American professional women’s basket league by the Seattle Storm formation.

She was the 21st choice of the Seattle Storm and becomes the second Cameroonian, after Alvine Mendeng in 2008, to achieve this.

“I have not yet realized what is happening to me. All the hard work begins now. I am grateful for this opportunity but I know that everything starts now. I have to go fight and win my place, “she reacted after being shortlisted.

Dulcy Fankam was the most dominant player in the league last season with her university, South Florida, and finished the 2022-23 campaign with an average of 16.5 points per game, the second of the team and the third of the conference, with 12.3 rebounds per exit.

With a total of 418 rebounds per game, she was the best “rebound” of the season in the lower division.

Dulcy Fankom born in Nkongsamba, Littoral region was one of the best basketball players in the Cameroonian championship with the BEAC club. In 2018, she flew to the United States where she joined the University of South Florida team under coach Jose Fernandez.

The US Embassy in Cameroon while congratulating her on their Twitter handle stated that the WBNA is made up of the most accomplished and competent women in the world of basketball.

“Congratulations to Cameroonian basketball player Dulcy Mendjiadeu, 21st choice of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WBNA) by the Seattle Storm. She was selected in the prestigious WNBA, which is made up of the most accomplished and competent women in the world of basketball,” they noted.
