Cameroon Wants More 874 Billion FCFA To Electrify 9000 Localities
Addressing parliamentarians this day, the minister of water and energy Gaston Eloundou Essomba disclosed that many localities in the country are yet to have power due to unavailability of poles, dams and transformers.
The Littoral region with 1103 localities has just 704 electrified against 399 pending. To the MINEE boss, the few localities with electricity still witness power cuts due to the fall of electric poles, overload of equipment, and the uncivil attitude of citizens who steal public bulbs.
The Mayo Rey in the North region is rather a victim of bush fire and floods which have pushed down poles and halted transportation of power. In the South West region, 95% of transformers are overworked causing low voltage and frequent blackouts while the North West region has 55 broken transformers.
In a bid to resolve the electricity problem, Minister Eloundou Essomba has suggested a thorough study on the ground by his team and a total of 874 billion dispatched to all ten regions and the North region having the greatest share 267 billion. 104 billion be allocated to the Centre, 101 Adamawa, 90 Far North, 95 South, North West 66 billion, same as East while the Littoral gets 50 billion, the West 45 and the South West gets 28 billion CFA francs.
