After being granted the opportunity to host the African senior athletics championship in 2022, Cameroon was forced to give up its hosting rights due to the African Nations cup hosted in Cameroon back in 2021.
However, during the CAA congress in Lusaka, Zambia, Cameroon was entrusted with the task of organizing the event in 2024, thanks to a superb presentation of quality sports, hotel, and hospital infrastructures.
In a recent visit to Cameroon by Kalkaba Malboune, president of the African Athletic Confederation, the minister of sports and physical education, Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi assured the delegation from AAC that Cameroon is well-prepared to host the championship.
“This is our major event and it will be very important to African athletes, reason why we came to see how prepared the country is so that we can be aware of the difficulties, the organizers are facing and see how we can support them or exchange ideas to make the event a successful one,” said President Malboune during the visit.
In anticipation of the upcoming championship, the Director General of the institution, Lamine Faty, the President of the Cameroon Athletic Federation, Emmanuel Motombi, said that many athletes will participate in the competition; some seeking qualification for the Olympic games, and others with hopes of representing Africa and winning medals. Cameroon is ready to showcase its hospitality and passion for sports during this prestigious sporting event.
