Cameroon thrash Kenya 4-1 to lead group J in AFCON qualifiers
The Indomitable Lions eased past the Harambee Stars of Kenya in a 4-1 win at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium on match day 3 of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
The victory secured Cameroon a comfortable lead in group J with seven points ahead of Zimbabwe with five points, Kenya four points, and Namibia with no point.
The Harambee Stars arrived Cameroon determined to shock the Lions in the away match. The East African nation was coming from seven straight victories.
Coach Engin Firat expressed much confidence ahead of the encounter, however, the outcome did not come as expected. “Everyone knows it’s Cameroon and it’s a big football nation and anyone who comes knows they will be under pressure” he said.
“We’re not used to playing in front of this crowd, fantastic fans” the coach added.
Captain Vincent Aboubakar, Christian Bassogog, Bryan Mbeumo, and Martin Hongla, had a brilliant performance, each scoring in the match.
Marc Brys and his team will travel to Uganda for the second leg of the fixture against Kenya on Monday, October 14.
