Cameroon set to import 42.000 tons of sugar

The information is contained in a correspondence written by Minister of State, Secretary General at The Presidency of The Republic Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh and addressed to trade minister Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana.

This measure he says, has already been approved by President Biya and will help meet demands which are high in Cameroon. The importation of this granulated sugar is estimated at 42.000 tons worth F CFA 11 billion with each ton at a cost of F CFA 264.351.

Four companies have already been given the go ahead to carry out these importations. They are Groupe Ketcha (15000tons), Essong Sarl (7000 tons), Collectif des Importateurs du Nord-Ouest et Sud-Ouest (15000 tons) and Société Liman et Fils in Maroua(5000 tons).

Cameroon had stopped sugar importation early this 2022 to boost local production which faced some setbacks considering that the Mbandjock production unit of Sosucam had stopped functioning for weeks due to fuel scarcity.
