Cameroon ranked third in world’s most neglected conflict

The Norwegian Refugee Council, NRC has released a list of ten countries that are ranked according to the level of negligence. All the ten most neglected conflicts are in Africa.

Cameroon is ranked 3rd.

Accorieng to the NRC, the annual list of neglected displacement crises is based on three criteria: lack of funding, lack of media attention, and lack of international political and diplomatic initiatives.

The armed conflict in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon is in its sixth years yet no concrete negotiation deal has been arrived at.

Though thousands have died, millions displaced, the International Community is yet to show interest in either funding or looking for solution.

The international media has also been giving less coverage while local media ate being shutdown or intimidated by the regime.

Since 2016, Anglophone trade unions rose against the central government denouncing a gradual process to undermine the Anglophone culture in education, judiciary and other aspects of life.

Government responded with police clampdown on protesters leading to a reaction after October 1, 2017 when in self defense, Anglophone youths picked up arms to demand for a separate state called Ambazonia.
