Cameroon: Five destinations you MUST visit this Christmas

The festive season generally comes with euphoria- memories and the ones we would love to create especially with our loved ones. If some choose to travel abroad, many Cameroonians have embraced the rich cultural diversity of their country and rather opt for unimaginable discoveries that will change the dynamics of their lives.

A stop at the Djébalé island in Bonaberi -Wouri division of the Littoral region, will be a splendid opportunity to walk on sand bare feet, breathe fresh air with feet inside sea water, and commune with trees. This most recent attraction site in the Littoral region hosts the family residence of famous Franco-Cameronian footballer Kylian Mbappe.

Adding to this is the Ekom Nkam Falls in the Moungo division and the Yoyo Beach in the Sanaga Maritime division.

For those who simply want to bond with the sun and the rocks, then the small canyon “GORGES DE KOLA” in Guider in the North region of Cameroon is perfect.

The about 5km rocky stone line leaves you with a stunning view of what mother nature has to offer. You can also eat fresh fruits, go fishing, and more.

The East is another fantastic destination for families with its immense forests and wildlife species. At the Dja Natural Reserve, there’s a huge variety of chimpanzees, gorillas, etc and in nearby forests, you get to see elephants and maybe touch them.

Also, you could have a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with the Barka pygmies(much talked about in Cameroon). Not leaving out a tour of the Lobeke National Park.

Many tend to ignore the West region when it comes to thrilling experiences. A stop at the Foumban Sultanate a UNESCO international heritage will make everything different.

The blend of baroque and local architecture built since 1917 is still standing strong to the amazement of all. The West is equally blessed with waterfalls, small mountains, museums, and resorts.

For those who want silence or a one-on-one chat with the sea and fishermen, Limbe is the place to visit. The town in Fako division in the South West region of Cameroon has over 6 beaches coupled with those in Idenau.

In Limbe, you could visit the slave trade area in Bimbia, and feel and smell ancient canoes in Idenau while those who love height could simply reside at the famous 14-floor “Gilgal Tower” in the heart of town.
