Cameroon-Chad, Bongor bridge far from complete 8 years down
The bridge linking Yagoua in Cameroon to Bongor in Chad is 30% gone two years after construction works were launched. Cameroon control officials blame high currents which makes decking under water challenging, financial constraints and the recent fuel scarcity.
The construction of a second bridge over river Logone is a project which was signed between President Paul BIYA of Cameroon and late Chadian president Idriss Deby Itno back in 2014. It was to facilitate movement of persons, counted at about 2000 daily, between both countries and thus boost economic exchange and development.
Razel, the company in charge of works, equally blames poor roads as the 1.222km distance linking Yaounde and Yagoua has become very challenging for truck drivers.
The project worth F CFA 92 billion is financed by Cameroon, Chad, the Africaan Development Bank, African Development Fund and the European Union. It will also include the construction of markets in Yagoua and Zebe for Cameroon.
