In an open letter to Paul Biya, the President of the Republic of Cameroon, Banker-Consultant Ange Ngandjo has voiced his concerns and heartfelt plea for a change in leadership to safeguard Cameroon’s future prosperity.
Ngandjo’s letter emphasized the urgency of addressing the challenges that threaten Cameroon’s development aspirations.
He began by acknowledging Biya’s past commitments to transforming Cameroon into an emerging economy by 2035, recalling the president’s vision articulated during a historic speech in December 2018.
However, Ngandjo lamented the setbacks that have hindered progress, citing the “Anglophone” crisis, the global COVID-19 pandemic, and recent governance issues that have tarnished Cameroon’s reputation internationally.
In his letter, he warned, “In the current state of the country and its realities, you are unfortunately more of a hindrance than an asset to its materialization.”
The letter went ahead to outline the prerequisites for Cameroon’s attractiveness to private international investors.
He highlighted the need for a leader committed to humanism, good governance, and inclusivity, urging Biya to consider retirement as a means to pave the way for a new era of leadership.
“What’s better than a well-deserved retirement to write them?” Ngandjo questioned, appealing to Biya’s legacy and the greater good of Cameroon.
