Buea: Taxi Drivers linked to kidnapping allegiance arrested
BUEA, (Cameroon News Agency)- Security forces in Buea have apprehended taxi drivers suspected of affiliating with a prominent Ambazonia general and engaging in kidnapping activities in Fako division, South West region.
Nkwain Folefac, Carinton Nyanyanga Ekwelle and Mbella Daniel, confessed to have been operating under the directives of an Ambazonia separatist self-styled general, Angiaboh Luther, implicating them in kidnapping incidents.
Authorities took action following reports linking the drivers to abduction cases in the division, further underscoring their allegiance to the Ambazonia movement.
One of the drivers said he started work just a month before his arrest but he helped in four different kidnapping cases.
Another revealed that he was picked up after military security, SEMIL, tracked a mobile money transactions that was sent into his phone.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with authorities working to dismantle networks involved in illicit activities.
Locals have been warned to be careful with the kind of taxis they board as the commander is said to have bought five taxis and five bikes to circulate in Buea and carry out the kidnappings.
