Buea: Gendarmes Kill Traditional Dance Group Leader, Injures Another
The Bakweri traditional dance group was performing around 4:35 am in Bonduma, Buea Sub Division on Monday, November 15, 2021, when Gendarmes invaded the area and started shooting at the dancers.
“I heard how the guys were still performing then all of a sudden I heard serious gunshots and total silence followed. They didn’t shoot for long but it was serious. When the gunshots died down, we heard someone crying for help. When they left we came out and discovered that two guys were shot and the chief of Bonduma gate came and took them to the hospital but we heard one had died ” a witness narrated.
The government forces later came and tried to twist it by saying that they were Ambazonia forces but those around maintained that they saw government forces pack their vehicle before they started shooting, someone with knowledge of the incident told CNA
The “Nganya” dance is a popular traditional performance that the Bakwerians hold close to their hearts.
The Victims
The deceased victim shot dead by government forces in Bonduma is called Monono Ekule John. He was a member of the Nganya traditional dance group, where Bwassa Chief and BIR element, Ewune Hohn Eko alias Moja Moja, is a member.
Monono John was also a Wrestler who used to thrill spectators during Bakweri traditional wrestling competitions. CNA correspondent has said that Moja Moja, the military element that has been intimidating civilians in Buea, was inconsolable.
Emmanuel Ikoke, another victim is receiving treatment in a hospital. The incident occurred at least 48 hours after some Buea Chiefs marched on streets denouncing the UB bomb blast of last week.
