Lionel Messi inspiring rebirth at Inter Miami

Inter Miami are enjoying a sparkling run which has been largely inspired by Lionel Messi, since his arrival at the MLS club in July.

The $150 million signing who joined from PSG where he had spent two difficult seasons, following close to two decades at Camp Nou, is set to play his first final with his new club.

The Argentine slotted home from 31.8 metres for the second goal in Inter Miami’s 4-1 victory in the Leagues Cup semi-final against Philadelphia Union on Tuesday.

The victory was the club’s sixth straight win since Messi’s arrival. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner now has 9 goals to his name, with the club netting an overall 21 goals in the six games played with the 2022 World Cup winner.

Before his signing, Inter Miami who are currently last (15th) in the Eastern Conference of the Major League Soccer, had managed just 22 goals in 22 matches.

After the Leagues Cup final which will be played against Nashville SC on Saturday, August 19, Gerardo Martino’s team will resume the MLS campaign against Charlotte FC.

Messi has not only drawn attention to the Miami side, but has also flipped the team’s performance from an average to a superb one.
