Bridge linking Mbankomo to Yaounde 6 death trap

The locality of Nkong Bibega in the Mbankomo subdivision is completely enclaved as they cry out for help from the government. The bridge that links most of the villages in Mbankomo and Yaounde is completely damaged and considered risky to users. The people of Nkong Bibega village say the bridge is likely to collapse anytime soon and it makes them scared to use it but they have no other alternative.

The population complain that the situation gets worst during the rainy season and insist on the fact that, it has been over 10 years since the bridge satrted getting deteriorated.

“In case we have to construct a house around the bridge area, we have to carry all the construction materials on our heads to cross the bridge and it is not easy,” a local laments.

“To have access to where we are now which is just few kilometres to Yaounde, we need to go round which covers a long distance and it has been over 10 years now and still counting that we have been crying for the authorities to build us a better bridge but we have recieved no feedback so we decided to take our future and village issues into our own hands by putting money together to make the bridge better,” Guillaume Martin, Nkong Bibega village head says.

Thanks to the efforts of the inhabitants of Nkong Bibega, the construction of the bridge has been launched to ease movement. According to reports, the project is on standstill due to lack of finance. The people are now calling on the government to come to their aid.

“We have so many other problems plaguing us in Nkong Bibega but the bridge as at now is the most important because without it we cannot get to Yaounde or other villages and towns,” Nandem Aurell says.

The head of Nkong Bibega is calling on the population to exercise more patience while hoping and praying that their message this time gets to the government and a positive response is given. Meanwhile, the population feels moderately satisfied knowing that they have taken the project into their own hands and it is slowly progressing.
