Breaking news:CBC Executive President announces resignation
In a new turn of events in the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC), the Rev. Dr. Nditemeh Charlemagne has announced that he is stepping down as the Convention’s Executive President.
Speaking in an audio message that CNA has listened to, Rev. Dr. Nditemeh said he prefers peace than power.
“It is not too much for a leader to sacrifice power for the sake of peace” Nditemeh said. “Peace is precious and stronger than power. Peace is worthier and greater than greed. Peace is sweeter and mightier than ill-gotten riches. Peace will ever be stronger than tribalism. Peace be with you. My peace I leave with you” Nditemeh said.
The CBC’s number one pastor explained that the decision to not seek a second term of office was made in consultation with his family.
Rev. Dr. Nditemeh said that he had only wanted the best for the CBC and that it was never his intention to seek a second mandate. But that merely one year into office, it became clear to him that bringing the positive changes he had intended into the CBC, was not going to be any easy task as some within the church preferred the status quo so they can keep benefitting from the church.
Nditemeh’s resignation comes amid legal battles which saw some disgruntled CBC Christians taking him to court over today’s scheduled elections.
The elections were banned by local government authorities in Bamenda, Kumbo, Kumba, Ndu and Oku; with most of the administrators later reversing their bans less than 24 hours later.
