Abraham TATA, the head teacher of G.S Mbengkas in Boyo, North West region, was brutally killed by Amba Boys on February 7, 2024, at around 11 pm.
According to sources, the killing was a culmination of a long-standing feud between TATA and his cousins, which began several years ago. The cousins had accused him of having wealth and influence, which they believed he had acquired through questionable means.
The feud escalated in June 2024, when his house in Obang village was burnt down by the villagers, allegedly at the instigation of his cousins. TATA had taken the matter to court in Bamenda, but the case was eventually dropped due to lack of evidence.
However, some of the victim’s cousins had since joined the Amba Boys, a separatist group operating in the region. They reportedly decided to take matters into their own hands and kill him.
He had previously been kidnapped by the Amba Boys and held for over a month. He was released after a ransom of 2.7 million CFA francs was paid, but not before he was severely beaten and had one of his fingers cut off.
TATA had traveled to Tiko for treatment and later returned to Bamenda to conduct a census and check on his salary. He had visited his family in a neighboring village, where he was apologized to by the village council, who promised to rebuild his house and grant him access to his cocoa farm.
Tragically, he was killed by the Amba Boys on the same day he returned to his family’s village.
