Black weekend in Bamboutos
Inhabitants in some parts of the Bamboutos division had a dreadful weekend as criminal activities are on the rise.
The lifeless body of a businessman whose name CNA got as Wati Apollinaire was discovered in early hours of November 29 in Bametia, a neighborhood in Bangang, Batcham subdivision. Bakassi as he was popularly called, after spending the night of Monday to Tuesday out of his home, was no where to be found the next day. His worried customers launched a search operation after noticing that the store was locked, unlike they had the habit of seeing. This search led to the discovery of his lifeless body in a pool of his own blood. Preliminary findings have it that he was stabbed to death. The people behind this gruesome act are still unknown just like their motives.
The case of Bakassi looks similar to that of Julio, another businessman in Bamendou, a locality in Mbouda subdivision, who almost lost his life on Sunday November 27th. He was also attacked and stabbed on the head by unknown persons as he was returning home at about 7pm. It was thanks to the timely intervention of neighbors that Julio’s life was saved and he was rushed to the hospital.
The victim confirms that the unidentified criminals took away huge sums of money he had recovered that day.
Still on Sunday, a 22-year-old breastfeeding lady, was gang raped by unidentified men this time in Babadjou subdivision. The lady was found in an unconscious state and was taken to a nearby hospital. Medics confirm that the lady was drugged before the act. The victim declared she only recalls that she boarded a bike but the rider took a direction different from that she was in the habit of taking.
This rising rate of insecurity is creating panic especially as end of year festivities are near. Nadège is a trader in Babadjou and says this situation should really draw the attention of administrative authorities:
“May our administrators really come to our rescue, it’s too much. Where are our vigilante groups? Christmas is closer and these boys are at work, where will we run to?”
As the situation persists, inhabitants of the dicision are calling on competent authorities to work harder to ensure that they are safe especially during the festive season.
