Black Saturday in Ekona: Four Young Men Killed, House Burned by Amba Fighters

It was a black Saturday for residents of Ambelle Street in Ekona, as fear and grief gripped the community following a violent attack early this morning.

According to eyewitnesses, suspected Amba fighters stormed the neighborhood, executing four young men in their 20s whom they accused of being “black legs” — a term used for individuals alleged to have betrayed the separatist struggle. The fighters also set fire to a house during the attack, leaving families displaced and deepening the sense of insecurity in the area.

Residents remain in shock, describing the killings as “cold-blooded” and expressing fears of further reprisals. Authorities are yet to make an official statement regarding the incident.

These killings come on the heels of the death of seven government forces in Muyuka in early September. Their death prompted state security forces to carry out massive arrests in some major villages of Muyuka.

The separatists believe that some civilians have been acting as informants to government forces.
