Biya imposes travel bans, ministerial appointments in view?
Recently, the Delegate General of National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguelle, ordered Airport Commissioners and Regional Delegates Generals for National Security to stop top government officials from traveling. This also included Directors General and their Deputies, and Boardchairs.
Such trips must only be validated by competent authorities, the leaked document stated.
Cameroonians think that this is the sign of a probable cabinet shakeup or a massive “operation sparrow hawk” -this is an operation that was code-named by President Paul Biya in his efforts to fight against corruption in his New Deal government.
The anticipation of upcoming ministerial appointments is high and many expect that it will shape the country’s political landscape. As Cameroon navigates through these changes, stakeholders eagerly await clarity on the new travel policies.
The last Ministerial appointment in Cameroon was on January 4, 2019, when the current PM, Chief Dr. Dion Ngute was appointed to lead the government. The team has been in place for five years and a few weeks.
