The Bishop of the Diocese of Buea has condemned the killing of five Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC, workers and several others injured on Friday February 10, 2023 by unidentified gunmen.
In a press release signed by Bishop Michael Bibi on February 13 2023, he says the act is inhuman:
“I vehemently condemned with the strongest words this devastating and despicable inhuman act which has no moral, judicial, social or political justification irrespective of the motive,” a section of the press release states.
Quoting from Exodus 20:13, Bishop Bibi reiterated that the act is a sin against God:
“The act is not only a heinous crime against humanity, but a sin against God, as no one has the right to take away the life of another for whatever reasons. Human life remains sacrosanct, and no one except God has power over it”.
While extending his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members, the Bishop regretted that such abominable acts are becoming rampant in the English speaking regions of Cameroon today.
“It is unfortunate that such abominable acts are becoming more and more common in our communities today. As a Christian community we cannot be indifferent to the shedding of innocent blood, kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, looting, destruction of livelihoods and displacement of people from their homes”.
The Bishop also urged all christians to remain faithful and continue praying for the repentance of those committing the acts.
On February 11, 2023, the General Manager of CDC, Franklin Ngoni announced in a press release that five workers of the company, including four men and a woman had been killed by unidentified gunmen along the Tiko-Douala road on February 10 at about 5:30pm while they were returning from work.
The General Manager furthered that 44 others who were on the same personnel vehicle transporting the workers are currently receiving treatment at the Tiko hospital.
The manger said the motive behind the act was still to be established. Meanwhile he made it clear that investigations are ongoing to track down those who masterminded the act.
This is however not the first time that workers of the Cameroon Development Corporation are killed in the South West region. Some have been kidnapped, tortured and ransoms paid before they were released.
