Bipindi: doctors use torches during surgeries
The chief medical officer of the Bipindi integrated health centre in the South region has said most often they use torchlight or their mobile telephones to operate patients.
“Since I started working here in 2019, lack of electricity has been one of our difficulties. We have a standby generator but when we don’t have money to fuel it, we are forced to use light from our phones to carry out surgeries,” Dr. Oyongo Bekolo Serges, chief medical officer of the Bipindi integrated health centre revealed.
Apart from this, the health centre lacks sufficient equipment to serve the population. The few available ones are obsolete and there is no electricity for its usage.
“The machines here are outdated. We need modern machines that will permit us work flexibly. I hope authorities grant our request,” Dr. Oyongo added.
Since most of the units are almost completely disfunctional, people with enough financial resources prefer to travel to Lolordof or Kribi for appropriate medical care, despite the hectic journey or the deplorable state of the seasonal roads.
