Bike riders in Lomie protest corrupt gendarmes
The motorcycle riders say they have to part with F CFA 1.000 every single day they go out to work.
According to them, gendarme elements at the Payo control post, situated about 13KM away from the town of Lomie do not let them pass without collecting their customary amount of money.
The bike riders who can barely make ends meet say this amount is too high a price for them to pay when they can barely afford three square meals a day. Exasperated by this practice, a letter had been written to the divisional officer of Lomie, Haut Nyong division, East region of Cameroon and he had invited both parties for peace talks. The D.O. had also insisted that this practice be stopped but the reality on the ground is different.
The riders say the head of the territorial brigade of Lomie must look into this issue and ensure that the now mandatory collection of F CFA 1.000 for motorcycle riders comes to an end.
