Bid to Bar: Derek Invo, 35, to face battle for General Assembly VP

By Nchendzengang Tatah

Amongst candidates vying for positions in the Cameroon Bar Council General Assembly is Derek Invo Buo, 35. He will contest the election on July 14, 2025, alongside other candidates for the prestigious position of Vice President in Yaounde.

His top priorities, if elected, he says, would include: “establishing a digital legal hub for case law and continuing education; advocating for mental health services for lawyers; enforcing ethical standards to restore the profession’s public image.

He further indicated that his objective will be “lobbying for improved access to legal aid for vulnerable populations. Equally, supporting young practitioners with startup grants and mentorship would be crucial.”

Bar. Derek Invo currently plays lead at the Agbor Nkongho Law Firm. He credits this achievement at a relatively young age to discipline. He added that integrating himself into the changes offered by the modern world while empowering youths has facilitated his work.

The author of several books is a member of several law groups. He has, over the years, garnered a couple of recognitions to add to his degrees from both Cameroonian and Nigerian institutions.

“I have equally authored books, amongst which is the first of its kind in the history of the bar. My book “Professional ethics and skills of Legal practice in Cameroon” serves as a manual for practitioners within Cameroon,” asserted Derek Invo.

In the last seven years, he has served as a legal analyst, advocate, and case reporter for Pan African legal body, the Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa, CHRDA. Through concerted efforts on the platform, he works to cover gaps across the continent.
