Barrister Akere Muna alleges corruption and non-cooperation concerning Glencore in Cameroon

Barrister Akere Muna has raised serious concerns regarding alleged corruption involving Glencore, high-ranking officials from Cameroon’s National Hydrocarbons Corporation (SNH), and the National Oil Refinery (SONARA). According to Muna, Glencore, having pleaded guilty and signed a Plea Bargaining Agreement, is obligated to cooperate with Cameroonian investigation authorities until mid-next year. However, after this period, Glencore’s obligation expires, potentially hindering further cooperation.

Muna asserts that Cameroonian investigators could easily summon Glencore for necessary information, with failure to comply possibly prompting involvement from the American Department of Justice. Furthermore, Muna suggests that SNH and SONARA have the authority to demand information from Glencore Cameroon, threatening contract cancellations for non-compliance due to alleged fraud in securing favorable commercial conditions through bribery.

In light of these allegations, Muna emphasizes the need for transparency and accountability, expressing confidence that justice will prevail and Cameroonians will reclaim any lost funds.

“The delaying tactics of Glencore and implicated government officials are fooling no one. The truth will come to light, and justice will prevail. ‘Man no run’!”
