Baptist University to Be created soon, CBC leaders announce at Douala meeting

A Baptist university will soon be created according to leaders of the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC). The announcement was made by CBC leaders during the CBC National Ministers Fellowship which took place recently in Douala.
The Fellowship brought together hundreds of Cameroon Baptist Convention pastors and leaders from various departments and ministries of the Convention to discuss issues ranging from evangelism to health amongst others.
During the meeting, it was revealed that plans are underway to get authorization from the Cameroon government for the creation of a Baptist university which will offer tertiary education with Christian values at its core.
The Cameroon Baptist Theological Seminary (CBTS) in Ndu is the oldest academic institution of the CBC founded in 1947 and over the decades, there have been calls to transform it into a full fledged university with the seminary becoming a faculty of theology instead.
The CBC already operates the Baptist Training School for Health Personnel since 1955 in Kumbo and also the Baptist Institute for Health Sciences in Mbingo as well as programs such as the Center for Clinical Pastoral Education and Social Services (CECPES) which trains chaplains to be counsellors.
The creation of a Baptist university will be welcome news, not only for Baptist Christians in Cameroon but for the entire nation as Baptists were the first Christians to arrive Cameroon in the late 1800s but have not since created a university, focusing instead on evangelism, health and other ministries.
