Bangolan: Two CBC medical staff drown at Bamendjing dam
Two men have drowned at the Bamendjing Dam in Bangolan a renowned fishing village in the NW Region. According to sources CNA spoke to, Fonyuy Albert (aged about 30) and Ngala Clifford (35) were in a boat with two other men who are from Bangolan when their dug-out canoe capsized and they drowned.
The two other men who are indigenes of Bangolan knew how to swim and were able to escape from the dam unharmed.
Fonyuy an indigene of Kitiwum in Bui Division of the NW and Ngala, an indigene of Ndu in Donga Mantung, were staff members at Bangolan Baptist Health Center where they served as pharmacy assistant and security guard respectively.
Our source told us that the deceased had often undertaken the journey across the Bamendjing Dam on several occasions. They were going to a fertile island across the dam to fetch firewood and catch birds, our source told us. Ngala Clifford leaves behind a wife and four kids with the youngest at just two months old.
At the time of the accident, the two were not wearing life jackets and could also not swim.
At press time , the bodies had been deposited at the morgue at Shisong Catholic Hospital in Kumbo, NWR.
