Bamenda: Widow says Minister Paul Atanga Nji’s family trying to seize her land

Asongwe Stella, a widow in Bamenda has revealed that the family of Territorial Administration Minister, Paul Atanga Nji has been struggling to seize her piece of land.

After spending about 29 years on the piece of land with her family, Asongwe Stella, a widow in Bamenda, is forced to quit.

The piece of land, located along the Commercial Avenue stretch in the Bamenda II subdivision is said to have been bought by her husband, Asongwe John from Atanga Joseph both of blessed memory.

On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Asongwe Stella with her relatives came out with banners, calling on the law and judicial process to be respected in their case.

While talking to the press, Asongwe Stella revealed that the children of the late Joseph Atanga, Minister Paul Atanga Nji, and her sister are sending them out of the land.

“We have been living here peacefully with no problems with Pa Atanga, until when he died his children started bringing us problems. We are begging the Cameroon government to see into our problem…the case is presently in court but they went ahead to come and evacuate our tenants…,” Asongwe Stella said.

Asongwe added that though she has all the documents of the piece of land, including a land title, they were first informed that the land title was canceled without any justification before security forces came and sealed the area, and asked her tenants to pack out.

“Last Monday, they brought the military and the Mayor and sealed the place,” Asongwe added.

Despite claiming to be the true owner of the land, Asongwe Stella, whose husband died in February 2024 said she would leave if the courts declared that the land does not belong to her.

“We want justice to prevail, if today they are declared the true owners of the land, we will happily leave,” Asongwe added.

According to her documents, the piece of land was bought in 1990.

Pual ATanga Nji ha snot made any statement on the matter and CNA could not reach out to him at the time of this report.
