Bamenda: Inhabitants of Mile 90 go 7 months without electricity
Inhabitants of Mile 90, a locality in Bamenda II Subdivision, Mezam Division have been expressing concerns over the issue of electricity which they have been facing for more than seven months.
This comes after an electrical transformer that supplied the entire area got bad.
Since then, the electricity company, Eneo Cameroon has never come for repairs, we learned.
According to information gathered from some inhabitants of the area, the problem of electricity has been prolonged for so long because Eneo Cameroon no longer collects electricity bills due to fear, since the crisis began and as a result, they hardly do repairs in the suburbs, leaving it in the hands of the community.
It has reached a point where each household in Mile 90 has to contribute a sum of 30,000frs and 5,000frs per store to purchase a new transfer for the community.
“It’s been very difficult. My wife uses a machine at home, and the power outages mean that she can’t use it when the power is out. It’s a serious issue for us. And since there is no electricity we charge our phones using the Solar and generator for those who can afford and when places are dark we use candles and our touch,” a vendor by the name of Emmanuel said.
Another vendor called Victorine Tin at Mile 90 who owns a cold store said the problem of power outages is very troublesome because she has to use a generator to keep her goods cold and the price of fuel keeps on rising.
The people of Mile 90 are making all effort to bring back electricity to their area. They are hoping to get the problem resolved as soon as they buy a new transformer.
