Bamenda industrial zone: F CFA 2 billion investment turning into bush

The approximately 45-hectare piece of land dedicated for industries in Nkwen, Bamenda III subdivision, is still unoccupied. “Zibam” as it is called has been rehabilitated, roads tarred, electricity and water installed to attract investors home and abroad but all these seem not to bear expected fruits.

8 years after its establishment, the general manager of Magzi, the company in charge of land rehabilitation in Cameroon, has expressed worries over the slow turnout. In 2021, Christol Georges Manon said 5 investors had already occupied some of the land in the over 45 hectares given by government but the number is very small.

Created in 2014, the land has witnessed changes worth F CFA 2 billion and Magzi officials are positive investments could yield much profit to government and boost the economic growth of the region.

Access to land is upon application, a sum of F CFA 200,000 to 1 million is to be paid for demarkation and the investor could establish his business within 6 months. The management of Magzi group added preference is given to sons and daughters of the region.

Over the years, Magzi has had 11 industrial zones in 8 regions across Cameroon with new sites announced in Yassa and Dibombari in the Littoral, Meyomessala and Kribi in the South region, and Nomayos in the Centre region.
