Bamenda family demands justice in alleged rape case
By Wilson Musa
A disturbing case of alleged rape has surfaced in Bamenda, North West region, involving a 16-year-old girl and her aunt’s boyfriend. The incident occurred on December 31, when the suspect allegedly intoxicated the victim before assaulting her.
A source that reached out to CNA and who begged not to be named said the victim’s aunt caught the suspect in the act and immediately reported the incident to the military in Ngongham neighborhood. However, the suspect managed to escape before being apprehended and brought to the military.
CNA obtained documents showing that she received medical attention at the Bamenda Regional hospital, where she was provided with medication and a hospital book documenting her treatment. However, the hospital results were allegedly taken from the victim’s family and handed over to the suspect’s family by the military.
The military’s handling of the case has raised concerns, with the victim’s family alleging that they released the accused, Nde Christien, because the military received “what they wanted.” The family claims that they were prevented from taking the victim to the hospital for follow-up counseling due to financial constraints and lack of hospital report that show the girl was raped.
The victim’s family is seeking support to ensure that the suspect is held accountable for his actions.
The same source also alleged that the young man had confessed and was beaten at the barracks before his release.
They also told CNA that those treating the case wore ay T-shirts with inscription, BIR.
