Bamenda construction workers face hardship over unpaid wages
BAMENDA, Cameroon – Construction workers in Bamenda are facing severe financial hardship after completing a road project for the company Bofas without receiving full payment. Some workers allege they are owed up to nine months of wages.
The project, which involved constructing a 4-kilometer stretch of road from Welcome to Bamenda signpost to the Chantal Biya Foundation, was ultimately taken over by the government and handed to the agency BUNS due to delays by the former contractor.
Despite completing the work, many workers have received minimal compensation, leaving them struggling to meet basic needs. Efforts to seek redress from authorities, including the Governor and the Delegate of Public Works, have yielded no results.
