Bamenda 1 Councilors want constant water supply in 2023

The scarcity of potable water in the Bamenda 1 subdivision has pushed Councilors of this area to request a water management committee whose aim will be to ensure that water is made available in the community. Their request was made during a meeting organized by the council board to examine and vote on the 2023 budget.
The Councilors’ common worry was acute water shortages in their municipality. As a solution to the crisis, therefore requested for a central water management committee will supervise the extension of pipe-borne water and protect the water catchment area to avoid wasting water.
During this session, the budget balance in income and expenditure was revealed to be at FCFA 779.4 million and experienced drop of FCFA90 million.
The Mayor of Bamenda 1 council, Mbigha Njah Felix revealed that this drop is because of many projects which were budgeted for 2022 but were not met because of the low revenue generated by the council and low income made available to the council by the government.
With a vision for the council, Mayor Mbigha continued that the financial backdrop faced by the council can however be reduced. This is possible since the Bamendakwe market is functional, and the council hopes to construct 60 more sheds in 2023 and 40 around mile 1 junction.
The budget described by the Mayor as realistic will handle the following projects; extend electricity to some quarters in the subdivision, open up roads, and box culverts. Also, the council has bought a caterpillar that will construct farm-to-market roads to enhance agriculture in this zone.
The council also hopes to raise more revenue from buses plying the Bamenda-Bafoussam highway and those stationed at the council market.
“The council has as aim to beautify Bamendakwe,” he continued, and the level of success achieved so far is thanks to peace in the community. He further says the Gas Plant under construction in Banghsie and the Bamenda proximity stadium are rewards to Bamenda for being peaceful.
These two projects are income-generating projects as well as employment opportunities for youths in Bamenda.
