Bafoussam: Woman arrested in child kidnap/murder case

A woman whose name CNA obtained at Salamatou Issa also knownn as Salma is in Gendarmerie custody following accusations of kidnap and murder.

According to various sources, Salamatou organized the kidnapping of her 12-year-old nephew in the town of Bertoua, East region of Cameroon. She along with her accomplices are said to have asked that the amount of F CFA 15 million be paid as ransom prior to his release. After getting a response from their victim’s parents (her cousin), that they were unable to pay such money, she reportedly ordered that the child be killed and disposed of. His remains were found in a well and Salamatou decided to run to Bafoussam in the West region where she was arrested by law enforcement officers.

Many believe that the boy saw his aunt’s face while in captivity and so could not have been let to live under any circumstances.

Salamatou Issa is now in detention and investigations are ongoing to discover and arrest her accomplices.
