Bafoussam: gendarmes present 4 suspected rapists
Four out of five suspected rapists and burglars nabbed recently by gendarme officers in Bafoussam, West region of Cameroon have been presented to the public on Wednesday November 8, 2023.
Gendarme officers accused the four men aged 16 – 23, of sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl who was returning from school.
The head of the research and anti-crime unit of the Bafousssam territorial gendarmerie brigade, Captain Bassirou Mama said “the form 3 student of CETTIC de Ngouache was taken to a house in the neighborhood in an unconscious state by a renowned bike rider who drugged her. He used the opportunity to rape her. After satisfying his sexual desires, he invited four of his friends who also took their turns.”
Security sources added that the minor, after regaining consciousness a day later managed to escape and recounted everything to her parents who filed a complaint at the gendarmerie.
“Our investigations permitted us to track down one of the suspects. Through him we succeeded to apprehend three others, though one is on the run because they were five in number,” Captain Bassirou explained.
Among the four arrested suspects was a 16-year-old boy in possession of an automatic pistol and bullets.
“It appeared they burgled into a residence of an individual and took away his pistol which they used to carry out other operations. The gun fell from his bag while standing up when we caught them consuming hard drugs,” the Captain added.
The four suspects are due to appear in court while investigations continue to lay hands on the fifth suspect.
